Clydesdale Babies

Sunday afternoon was very fun for me as we took one last trip out to Menifee, CA to the Anheuser-Busch breeding ranch for the Clydesdale horses. 19 babies have been born since February so there were lots and lots of baby horses for me to see.....including one that was only 10 hours old. The momma of that one was named "Amanda" and she was a great momma as she stood guard over her new baby. The baby was named Erica after the man that works in the barn. He missed the delivery and since his name is Eric, he now has a namesake!!! This was my third trip out to see the horses and I enjoyed each one so much. They are moving the operation to St. Louis soon so we got in one last look before they take off for the midwest. Thanks to my friend Howard for the ability to get in. He is so generous in taking many of us out there numerous times to see all of the horses. They are magnificent horses. This is a picture of "Fez". He stood 19 hands tall and was four years old. Probably weighed right around 2000 lbs. Big horses...........the Clydesdales are very big horses.

The top picture is a picture of my horse Alex's shoe in comparison to a size 8.5 Clydesdale shoe. The shoes go up to size 11's so this wasn't even the biggest shoe possible. It is just amazing to me to see their size. Anyway, it was a fun day for many of us that got to go.

The other picture is a picture of Erica at 10 hours old with her momma, "Amanda". Baby weighed in at 250 pounds so how's that for size? I think they both must be pretty tired after a long, long night.

Great pictures, Lisa! The big Clydesdale horseshoe reminds me of my boys' big feet - size 14 and 15!
